Social Justice Team

Members of the team at the Oxford Citizens Delegates Assembly, February 2026
The Social Justice Team is a committed group of chapel members who work together to make a positive difference in our local community. We focus on practical action, fundraising, and campaigning for change on issues that matter to us.
We meet once a month for one hour, on the first Sunday of each month after the chapel service. One member brings food to share, and everyone is welcome to donate what they can. Any donations left after expenses are given to local charities.
What we do
At our meetings, we:
- Identify issues affecting people in our chapel and local community
- Plan practical initiatives to support those affected
- Organise events and initiatives to raise money for local charities
- Campaign for long-term, systemic change
In November 2025, we identified mental health and homelessness/poverty as two issues especially close to our hearts and personal experience. Since then, we have:
- Raised funds for local organisations working in these areas
- Started a new chapel spiritual book group to support people struggling with mental health
Working with Citizens UK
Oxford Unitarians are a proud member of Oxford Citizens, a non-partisan and non-confrontational alliance of local organisations campaigning for social justice in Oxford.
Oxford Citizens is part of Citizens UK, a national organisation that brings together schools, faith groups, universities, charities and community organisations to work collectively for the common good. Through this partnership, we work alongside other local groups to campaign for changes that improve people’s lives in Oxford.
Since February 2026, we have been involved in two Oxford Citizens campaigns:
- Affordable and reliable transport for young people
- Improved safety for asylum seekers, particularly in relation to a local park in East Oxford
Join us
The Social Justice Team meets on the first Sunday of the month, 12:30–13:30, in the Warrington Room at Harris Manchester College.
Everyone is welcome. To join, simply attend the chapel service and stay for the meeting afterwards.
